How do I apply two coats of powder coating to the surface of sheet metal part?

Start with a thorough inspection of the object for flaws, imperfections, and other surface issues. Just as powder coating is only applied to clean metal, a second powder coating should only be applied to an already perfect powder coating. Any imperfections will only be magnified by the second coat. This is one of the reasons we don't usually recommend this method: it's best to start with clean, bare metal. Once finished, we make sure there are no mistakes in the application and curing process. A properly finished powder coat is flawless.

It is especially important to determine if the powder coating on an object is actually a powder coating. Manufacturers in other countries have developed products that resemble powder coatings that are actually painted. If this is the case, all paint must be removed before applying a coat of powder coating.
