Yishang The Way to Make Quality Sheet Metal Enclosures
We didn’t start out wanting to be enclosure specialists, the journey began nearly 28 years ago when we expanded our fabrication shop to include full CNC machining services. With this critical in-house capability, we had the full range of production skills needed to take our enclosures from raw materials to the final sheet metal enclosure.
“The quality is horrible”.
From the drawing board, each component of this enclosure seems simple, but it is during the assembly process that the true quality of the enclosure becomes apparent.
The customer contacted us at the time to let us was wanting to share with us the enclosure parts he had made perfectly at another supplier. From the physical assembly drawings provided by the customer it was clear that these parts simply did not fit together.
We also found certain parts with improper angles, misaligned doors and kinked hinges. For the most part, each part fit the drawings perfectly, but the quality and consistency was abysmal.
A Craftsman approach to custom enclosures
After 2 hours of in-depth communication between our team and our client’s video, evaluating enclosure after enclosure, the problems were obvious. The manufacturer was simply following the instructions and requirements, but they were not using a craftsman approach to build good quality enclosures. Individual components were built to specification, but toleranc
e stacking issues during assembly revealed significant problems with fit and function.
After a video conference, we suggested to the customer a method that would help create the required sheet metal enclosure.
We took full responsibility for the entire process, performing regular fit checks at each production process throughout the manufacturing process and adjusting tolerances to account for stacking issues.
Today, customers come to us looking for a slight improvement on their previous enclosure manufacturing experience.
Our finished product not only exceeded their expectations, but also set an unexpected standard for sheet metal enclosure manufacturing.
A Simple solution for a complex enclosure
When customers ask us how we do it, our answer is simple: “We don’t take shortcuts.”
And it’s true: we solve every cabinet problem we encounter through close attention to detail, expert engineering insights and ongoing quality assurance.
While inspecting an enclosure from a previous manufacturer, we noticed deep scratches around two of the interior holes. When we inquired about the cause of the damage, the customer explained that they had been manually filing these areas to fix a fit issue with the unit inside the chassis.
However, the fix was simple. “We simply countersunk the holes in these areas,” we explained. With one simple modification, the company’s enclosure went from an assembler’s nightmare to a simplified success.
